Well, it was Father’s Day and we had 12 dedicated sailors out for the last of the Dinghy Winter Series, the wind was 5 knots and the tide 4 knots going out to sea, before the start a pacer decided to capsize backwards – I wonder which keel boat skipper that was? The Starter, Ross put the start boat on the sandbar so the sailors were not in the roaring section of the tide, after a general recall the sailors were off, Cha Cha, sailed by Panda Luff, got out of the blocks and was leading by 100 metres when he found a wind hole and the rest of the fleet caught up and sailed past him. At the top mark, the tide was screaming out, a very strategically placed top mark saw a number of competitors about to round the mark and sail backwards because of the tide, after 4 or 5 goes to round the mark the yachts were off like a rocket in tide assisted race to the top mark, after two testing laps the winner was Mike Gaebler a laser from Ben and Kim Wade.
In the Kevin Green Real Estate Pacer Cup it was a ding dong battle between the Keel Boats and the dinghy, it was a shame that two Keel boats retired otherwise they would have won the Cup on a count back, it was found that again, this year, the Dinghy and Keel Boaters tied for top spot so two years in a row it has been tied – cannot wait till next year ..
Thanks must go to all the volunteers who gave up their time so that the sailors could sail
Thank you!
