The Mandurah Offshore Fishing and Sailing Club is pleased to be supporting a community program that will allow people with disabilities in the Mandurah region to experience recreational fishing. The program is run by the Fishability Association. Fishers with Disabilities has been running for several years in Perth and the South West but is new to Mandurah.
Members of the MOFSC can support Fishability as volunteers and by passing on the word to people they may know who might participate in the activities. The club will provide assist to this worthy cause in line with our community support program. Denise Castillo, wife of an MOFSC member, already volunteers for the Fishability. She says “Volunteers share their knowledge and assist with hands on fishing skills and use of equipment. It’s immensely rewarding seeing how much pleasure the participants gain from the activity”.
Volunteers do not assist with personal care as participants must be accompanied by someone responsible for their supervision and safety. Anyone with a disability is welcome to come along. All equipment and bait is provided and activities are free of charge. Booking is essential as places are limited.
The program will be run throughout the summer at various locations around Mandurah, including the MOFSC. For details on the various dates and locations contact MOFSC or Fishability.
