Keelboat

KEELBOAT

The club has a very competitive Keelboat fleet that is divided into Spinnaker and Non-Spinnaker classes, for the serious and not so serious. The waters off Mandurah are ideal for sailing, the consistent winds and open waters are enjoyed by sailors of all ages.

The mix of events caters for all yachts with buoy racing, short course windward leeward, handicap and coastal racing – something for everyone. The Sailing section races on Saturday, with a more relaxed twilight sail on the Wednesday evening.

The club welcomes new sailors, no experience required! So if you would like to be a part of sailing in Mandurah let us know and get out there and experience sailing!

Please contact the MOFSC office for further sailing inquiries on 9535 6251 or reception@mofsc.com.au

SailConnect: Connecting skippers and crew

Developed with assistance from Australian Sailing, SailConnect is a free app for both Android and IOS phones. It is a simple tool for linking crew, skippers, events and clubs, and is aimed at increasing participation on the water.

Instructions for installing and setting up the app on your phone are provided on the SailConnect website.

How to use – New and experienced sailors looking for crewing opportunities:

  1. Install the app and create your profile, including your interests (e.g. cruising, racing, social), skill level (e.g. novice), any relevant qualifications you may have (e.g. Learn to Crew, First Aid) and your general availability (e.g. Saturday afternoons).
  2. Link yourself to the Mandurah Offshore Fishing and Sailing Club.
  3. Go to the ‘Events’ page and select a day/activity you are interested in and available for, then register your interest.
  4. Stand by! The app will alert you of any boats looking for crew on that day (you will need to ensure notifications are enabled).
  5. From time to time you may receive direct invitations to crew through the app’s chat function – please acknowledge such invitations, including ‘ please don’t ask again’, it’s only polite.
  6. If you are not using the app or are no longer interested in crewing at MOFSC, please delete your profile.

How to use – Skippers looking for crew:

  1. Install the app and create your profile (same as for crew). Link yourself to MOFSC.
  2. Register and describe your boat.
  3. Go to the ‘Events’ page and select a day/activity you are interested in and available for, then confirm that your boat will be attending. If there are events missing, please contact cs@mofsc.com.au
  4. Set the number of crew you need, then invite your regular crew and interested crew via the app. The app will keep track of who has confirmed or declined the event.
  5. Send updates to your crew as a single message through the app as well.

The club has listed all upcoming events between October and May and encourages all newcomers to the Club and MOFSC to download and list their profile and interest to sail via SailConnect. Likewise, all skippers and other sailors are also encouraged to do the same, and show the community just how many of us there are!

If you have an questions in relation to the SailConnect App, please contact the MOFSC Sailing Captain by email (cs@mofsc.com.au) alternatively, please give the office a call on 9535 6251.
