Elvstrom Sails Dinghy Winter Series Race 2 Results & Gallery – 08/07/18

Hello, to all Sailors, Parents, Coaches and Volunteers,

We really jagged another fine winter’s day on the 8th July, with the sun shining and another gentle breeze on the estuary.  In all, it was another near perfect day to be enjoying a sail in the sunshine!  Congratulations to those that picked up a placing in the tricky conditions and to all the juniors who were hiking hard and going fast in some of the stronger, flukey gusts.  It goes to show that we never stop learning to sail and it doesn’t matter how old we are.  I guess that at this point I need to mention a few ‘Gongs’ on the day..  First of all, I believe we had a few swimmers in the fleets?  I won’t mention any names here, but I believe that there was a laser sailor that was keen to test the temperature of the water in the estuary, not once, but twice  (Good going Dave!!)  I heard that there was also a Feva that decided to lay down, with the skipper and crew having a swim.  I have it on good account that those two used quite a bit of hot water back in the showers after sailing, to warming up.  A good effort girls..  I also heard that there was one Wave sailor that tried to move one of the navigation marks! (No more said ? )

We had 23 boats on the water and it was quite a spectacle for the general public.  I can’t describe, how much positive feedback that we are getting.  There has been so many people from within the club and outside, that have been watching us sailing from the shore on race day.

Just in the last couple of race days, I have seen all of the juniors building their skills and confidence on the Feva’s, Bic’s and Pacers.  A big well done to all the junior skippers and crew.  Remember, listen to your on water coaches, and try to apply the instructions that they give at the time.  All those little instructions, make a big difference which can mean many seconds, or even minutes ahead, when crossing the finish line.

A big thanks to everyone who volunteers their time to make our sailing happen.  The Support Boats, the Start Boat, The Mums and Dads, Coaches and Committee.

The forecast for this Sunday,  does not look so kind as it has been for us.  I will send another email out to everyone on Friday/Saturday to let you all know whether we will cancel the racing for Sunday.  If we do cancel, we will re schedule the Pacer cup to the following race day, and decide whether we will have a re-sail for the other series at a later date.

Remember that briefing is at 0900, so we want the dinghies rigged, and ready to be on the course for race start at 1000.
