This is the usual starting pathway. Coaches may recommend a different group based on the sailor’s experience, confidence and readiness.
Sail together. Progress faster.
Newer sailors can learn as crew beside a more confident helm. As their skills grow, they can take the helm and progress into afternoon racing.
How it works
Try three sessions
New sailors can try Saturday Training before committing.
Join the right group
Our instructors will help choose the best place to start.
Progress when ready
A simple skills card will show what they’ve learned and what comes next.
From training into racing
Racing gives sailors a fun way to use what they have learned and become part of the wider club.
Learn about Saturday RacingJunior coached races
On selected mornings, normal training may be replaced with short, fully coached races just for junior sailors. These give them a safe and supportive place to practise without the pressure of the main racing fleet.
Saturday afternoon racing
When a sailor is ready, their coach may invite them to join regular afternoon club racing. The coach will help families understand what is involved and which boat or fleet is suitable.
What families need to know
A little help before and after sailing keeps the morning organised and gets everyone on the water sooner.
What to bring
- Hat and sunscreen
- Clothes and shoes that can get wet
- Wet-weather gear when needed
- Towel and dry change of clothes
Communication
Registered families will receive access to the Saturday Training WhatsApp group for weather notices, weekly attendance and important updates.
How parents help
Parents of younger sailors assist with rigging and pack-up. Families are also encouraged to support training, racing and volunteering around the club.
Find the right place on the water
View current registrations or contact the On Water Coordinator if you are unsure which group is right for your sailor.
