Increasingly we are confronted by images of wildlife that have died because of plastic in our waterways.
It may be the bird found dead with a stomach too full of plastic to hold any food. It may be the turtle with the straw up its nose. Or it may be about microplastics in our food supply.
Another sometimes-overlooked problem with rubbish in our waterways is that chemicals can leach from the rubbish and contaminate water. This is particularly the case with cigarette butts.
We need to keep this rubbish out of our waterways.
