The youngest member of the Mandurah Dragon Boat Club, Amelia Anderson 14, is a world champ! Amelia recently represented Australia as a member of the national Dragon Boating team THE AURORAS, in the World champs in France. She is back at MOFSC and training for the new season, including representing WA at nationals in Queensland next March.
She is one of only two regional WA paddlers to be chosen for the elite squad, after a rigorous selection process. She trained hard and dedicated months to being selected and keeping her spot in the crew.
She traveled to the French village Divonne, near Geneva and had a successful campaign against 13 other countries, winning two gold and one silver medals.
She gratefully received a generous sponsorship donation from MOFSC, which helped towards her expenses. She proudly travelled with the MOFSC Burgee… and occasional remembered to bring it out of her bag for a photo, as she travelled around Europe with her parents for another 3 weeks after the competition ended.
Dragon boating is a great family sport for ages 10 and up. MDBC are aiming to build a junior team as well as grow the adult crew. All welcome, to come for 3 free tries to see what it’s all about!
