The 2021 – 2022 fishing season got off to a slow-ish start on the weekend. Unfortunately pretty rough seas saw some of us ‘fine weather fishers” either find something else to do, or like several – try fishing from jetties etc. Those electing to do the latter caught about the same as those who stayed at home ! Never the less 16 hardy souls gave it their best. Great to see a first time competitors, Liam and his son Jacob out on Mistral. Both weathered the conditions quite well.
The big swell and chop made journeying out for the larger demersal species (and even the likes of skipjacks) impractical- if not a bit on the dangerous side. The result was only three species presented at weigh in, with King George Whiting definitely the fish of the day. It seemed that just about everyone found their spot and many competitors brought one home. They were smaller than our best but Angel Robertson’s 0.215kg was good enough to win and take home the Oceano Dive Shop’s prize. Other awards included;
- Gabi Gaal managed a 0.155 Herring to win her the Tackle World Mandurah voucher.
- Adam Tenadii’s Sand Whiting at 0.165kg scored him the Midstream Hardware voucher.
- Champion Fisher award also went to Adam, earning him the Total Tools voucher.
- Our hard working secretary went home with the Lucky Angler draw of the Team Spirit Prize plus $10 cash.
Let’s hope the weather gods are in a better mood next outing – first full weekend in November (6th and 7th) .
And don’t forget – a sausage sizzle after weigh in next month ! Cook your catch if you would like to !
See you then.
