Time Trialling is a competitive event but not a race. The Power section holds a Time Trial season each year between May and September. Each boat starts individually at a nominated time across the start line.
Boats then proceed along a set course around a number of “Check Points”. Each competing boat nominates their own speed between 5 and 15 knots. The challenge is to navigate the course arriving at each Check Point exactly at your predetermined time without having changed boat speed or course.
A number of Check Points are randomly selected and manned by volunteers, who record the boat arrival time at that Check Point. Points are accrued for every second the boat arrives either early or late at each Check Point. The objective is to complete the course with the least amount of points lost! Like golf on water.
Prizes are awarded for Least Points Lost and also for Handicap winner.
If you do not wish to compete but love to get out on the water for an hour or so, we are always looking for check point volunteers. All training provided with free afternoon tea and the chance of winning a prize each week.
